South Africa will be opening a number of services that were closed due to total lockdown that was announced and started on the 26th March 2020. The country is now able to deal with the new cases of COVID-19 and the presidency announced that more businesses and services that were closed during total lockdown will open from the first of June.
Restaurants which were closed and open and operate as usual as the industry suffered a lot and a lot of people lost their jobs. The government will only limit the number of people allowed in one restaurant. Currently restaurants are only offering online sales where they deliver the foods ordered.
A few government departments will also be operating from June as they were also closed. SASSA is now working and only a few services offered by the agency but from June it will be fully functional. Currently the agency is offering new cards to those who lost theirs during lockdown and also registering new applications for different grants. They are also offering help for those who cannot apply online for the Social Relief of Distress Grant.
Car manufacturing industry will also be operating fully from June as they were very limited during lockdown. Only those who were operating were offering parts and mechanical fixing for people who were offering essential services only. The public was excluded and from June all South Africans can purchase cars and also have their cars fixed by dealers.
