The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been given the green light to be the source of full information for South Africans regarding anything that is happening in the country regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus. The broadcasting of all news regarding the virus is fully controlled by the government as they are restricting people to spread wrong and misleading information about the virus.
Newspapers are also allowed to cover anything regarding the virus in the country and around the world. All newspaper houses are given the mandate by government not to spread anything that could lead to people not trusting the government and the health ministry as that could lead people to striker which means a lot of people will go out of their houses and be in the streets which is a risk factor of contracting the virus if they come face to face with someone who is positive and they are not protected by then.
National radios and private radio stations are also covering everything about the pandemic and only allowed to talk more about what is happening and spreading the messages of measures available to help the fight against spreading of the virus. The government is making sure that radios are following all the measures and regulations and also not spreading any negativity and wrong information about the virus.
Any media found not to be following the measures and regulations by the government will be subject to jail and fine. Any person who fail to comply with mandatory regulations will face jail and the company he/she works for will face sanctions or even be banned from providing news services to the public.
