Banks and other financial services in SA during lockdown

South African banks and other financial institutions are given green light by the government to conduct business as usual for clients or customers to get help on a daily basis without any restrictions but not forgetting to follow the mandatory regulations set by the government to fight the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Banks and other financial institutions are allowed to conduct business that does not force or lead them to ignore regulations to fight the virus. People are allowed to queue at ATMs but the distance between them should be at least one metre. No one is allowed to be closer to the next person when standing on the queue even if you are husband and wife who came together at the bank, when you are on queue the distance between the two of you should one metre apart.

Consultants and cashiers at banks and other financial institutions are not allowed to serve clients without covering themselves with masks. They are also not allowed to shake hands with clients and also not allowed to be inside the one metre distance with those clients. Inside all financial institutions, clients are given hand sanitizers and also given masks if they don’t have.

All financial institutions’ buildings are sanitized every three days to make sure that they are virus free as there are a lot of different clients walking in on a daily basis from different places. No one is allowed to enter those buildings without protecting themselves and the net person. After using chairs and tables with consultants and cashiers there is always a safety officer who will come and sanitize the chairs and tables before the net person use them.

The South African government is making sure that they don’t get to the shutdown point of the country by making sure that all measures to combat spread of coronavirus are followed and bringing proven results where the rate of new cases is slower at all times. Government officials are always engaging banks and other financial institutions management at all times to make sure they explain all activities required to avoid overcrowding in those institutions.

Services excluded for these institutions include new business like opening new accounts and depositing large amounts of money as that will generate a lot of hands contact which is what the government want people not to do as the spread of the virus happens when people spend a lot of time touching things that the other person came with. Money is used by a lot of people and people are encouraged not to use cash when buying.
