During lockdown in South Africa there are a lot of accommodation being used by people rendering essential services in areas they do not reside. After it was announced that all people repatriated from different countries around the world should be quarantined for 14 to 21 days, the government decided to allocate residential places for those people.
Polokwane the Ranch Hotel is one of the accommodation places chosen by government to quarantined all people repatriated from countries around the world. Workers at the ranch were also provided with accommodation there as they cannot go home after work after working at the ranch where there are people to be tested for coronavirus as that might lead to the spread of the virus should one of the workers go home with the virus.
The SANDF members are also using a number of accommodation places around the country like Lodges, Bed & Breakfast (B&Bs) and some hotels were identified to accommodate the members of the SA Army when deployed to different parts of South Africa. All other accommodation business are currently closed due to coronavirus lockdown which started on the 26th March 2020 in South Africa.
People who tested positive for COVID-19 and now recovering are also accommodated in isolated places as prescribed by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Isolation is very important during lockdown as there are a number of factors which are included when deciding on isolation accommodation. The government had to use a few resorts for that as resorts are mostly found in farms which are away from town or congested areas where the risk could be maximum.
Truck drivers who are delivering food from different provinces each and everyday are also provided with accommodation as they cannot drive from province to province without resting. The government has lodges planned aside for these drivers which means that the employees of those lodges should work and provide those drivers with accommodation services they render.
South Africans who are not receiving any salaries from their employers due to lockdown are also having problems with their landlords as they are required to pay full rent all the time. Some people were chased out of their rooms by landlords as they failed to pay monthly rent, so now the government has stepped in to help people affected by lockdown and do not have a place to sleep during lockdown.
