Job Purpose: To assist the Butchery Manager in ensuring the smooth operation of the butchery department, delivering high-quality meat products, maintaining hygiene and safety standards, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in managing daily operations of the butchery department
Ensure all meat products are prepared, packed, labeled, and merchandised correctly
Maintain proper stock levels and place orders as needed
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations
Supervise and train butchery staff
Minimize waste and control shrinkage
Monitor and maintain equipment and tools
Provide prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable service to customers
Support the Butchery Manager in administrative tasks
Requirements:
Grade 12 / Matric certificate
Minimum of 2–3 years experience in a butchery environment
Previous supervisory or assistant management experience is an advantage
Knowledge of meat cuts, preparation, and storage
Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
