Fire at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital has been contained, no casualties reported – Gauteng Health

A fire that broke out at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital’s dispensary store on Friday has been contained with no casualties reported, the Gauteng health department said in a statement.

The fire broke out at around 11:30, according to the provincial health department.

“The Gauteng Department of Health wishes to assure the public that the fire that broke out today [Friday] at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital’s Special Dispensary Stores has been contained, and no casualties have been reported,” the department said.

Firefighters are said to be on-site, and all staff near the fire have been evacuated.

“Hospital clinical services have not been affected. The cause of the fire is not yet known,” the department added.

According to the department, the affected store was used for storing all dry surgical and medical items.
