National government supporting essential workers in South Africa

The South African government is fully supporting essential workers in the country during these difficult times where they are full-time at work while the rest of the nation is in lockdown due to outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus. Essential workers in the country are most of the underpaid and now the government is making plans to increase their salaries.

After the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the country will have to move slow towards ending lockdown as the virus is spreading further in all provinces especially Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal, essential workers will have to work overtime and will also be rewarded by the government through a compensation fund that was established for them.

The government is also making sure that essential workers are also protected against contracting the virus as they are in contact with the public everyday when on duty. Essential workers are tested every week by health workers to protect them against the deadly virus.

Food supermarkets workers are very happy during this period as they will be paid double their salaries as the government is subsidizing them for their brave contribution to help fellow South Africans during this stressful moment were life is uncertain due to the outbreak of deadly COVID-19 coronavirus.

It seems as if the lockdown in South Africa will end at the end of June 2020 and still be monitored after that as the President just announced that the army will still be monitoring the country until October 2020. This only means that movement of people especially gatherings of more than 100 people will be monitored specially as that is where the spread of the virus is most common.

Companies which are providing essential services are the ones which are not that much badly impacted by the lockdown as they are managing to conduct business on 80% basis which means their loss is not that much compared to other sectors where they are having 0 income during this time.

Most companies which are not trading during the lockdown are said to be going through difficult times as some are retrenching workers, while some are paying their employees half salaries as they are not making any money during the lockdown.
